About the Game
After 2 days in a heated discussion over the latest headline, a decision was made to turn a negative into an opportunity for positive change. Since it seemed we were living in a time where fact and opinion are interchangeable, it became clear that critical thinking is incredibly important. Unfortunately, this isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone. It takes practice and exposure which can start at a young age.
As a family who loves game night with the kids and boardgame marathons with friends, it became obvious, we needed to make critical and creative thinking fun. Our hope was that players could be exposed to different ways of thinking and practice articulating these thoughts, build confidence in recognizing biases, and ultimately transfer those skills to the real world.
That idea is how Hornville was born and with it the hope that we could help generate a fun environment for kids and adults to learn and grow.
How does Hornville build critical thinking skills?
Hornville offers silly and relatable topics that put the players in the shoes of the citizens of Hornville. A player’s role is decided randomly, so they will have to think how it may affect the city and the citizens that they represent regardless of their own thoughts on the topic. There are fact cards that inform the players about Hornville, which they can use to bolster their side, but they are not limited to these facts. Quick thinking and creativity can also help you get the votes.
